A LEVEL PRESS RELEASE

Much to Celebrate at BHSA!

Birkenhead High School Academy is delighted to report that students have achieved outstanding A Level and BTEC results this year.

An impressive 42% of all grades awarded were A*/A or Distinction*/Distinction at BTEC. Our average grade at A level is a grade B.

A large percentage of students will now be moving on to Russell Group Universities, having gained their first choices. There were many examples of individual success stories, but to name a few; Seren Saul - A,A,A,A, will study Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Cambridge; Karen Barraza - A*,A,A will study Dentistry at Queens University, Belfast; Kira Canales – A*,A,A has secured a place at University of Leeds to study Philosophy; Lydia Christley -A*,A,A,B will study Physics with Astrophysics at York University; Laura Kirkman – A*,A*,A*,A is going to Lancaster to study Geography; Sophie Newberry A,A and Distinction* will be studying Law at University of Liverpool; Timothea Sanyaolu – A*,A,C and Distinction* will be studying acting at Leeds Conservatoire, Lucy Wickstead A*,A*,A*, heading to the University of Birmingham to study Politics and International Relations, and Amy Williams (who also created a number of fantastic murals around the school) gained A*,A*,A* will be studying Post Production and VFX at the University of Salford. Others with equally impressive results are hoping to move onto apprenticeships or a range of employment opportunities. (Some results above include AQA Extended Project Qualifications – we were extremely proud of the students’ success in following their own interests to this level.)

Some of these students have been part of our school community since joining nursery at age 3, with others joining our Sixth Form after GCSEs.

In spite of worries created by negative stories in the press, almost all BHSA students gained their first choice places.

Rebecca Mahony, Principal, said, “We are so proud of our students’ achievements this year. They have shown great determination and resilience throughout an incredibly tough and disrupted few years. Huge thanks to all staff and parents for their amazing support throughout.”

If you would like to be part of our success story, we are still open to applications for a place in the 6th Form.

GCSE PRESS RELEASE

MORE TO CELEBRATE AT BIRKENHEAD HIGH SCHOOL ACADEMY

Following on from last week’s successes at A Level, BHSA students have done us proud at GCSE. This is a real testament to the hard work of both students and staff who have persevered throughout the difficulties of the last few years to achieve great results – with a huge 26% gaining grades which count as grade 7 (A) or above, and 84% gaining grades 4-9! This is particularly pleasing following media reports about stringent marking for top grades. The successes are many and varied, but to mention a few – Rebecca Bradford gained a string of top grades, including 9 for Design Technology and 8 in Maths. Megan Fenwick gained top grade 9s in Biology, Physics, Business Studies and RE as well as scoring highly in her other subjects. Katie Hamer, Seren Roberts and Hannah Heywood also smashed it with a range of 9s and 8s across their subjects.

GCSE results are not simply about getting top grades, but about moving successfully to the next stage of education, and we are delighted to say that the majority will be staying with us and joining our highly successful 6th form. Others have got apprenticeships or places at specialist local colleges such as LIPA – and we look forward to keeping in touch to see them moving on to the next stage of their own success story.

Principal Rebecca Mahony said, “Our students have once again done brilliantly. Throughout the exam season they showed great levels of maturity and resilience and we look forward to welcoming many back into our Sixth Form. We once again are extremely grateful to our dedicated staff and the wonderful support from parents and carers.”

If you would like to join our highly successful sixth form in September there is still time! Please contact the Registrar, Victoria Emmitt on 0151-652-5777.
